Super Falcons player Ashleigh Plumptre has labeled reports regarding her removal from the national squad as entirely inaccurate. The defender addressed a viral Facebook page that holds a verified blue badge, noting that it disseminated false stories suggesting she was dropped from the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) team due to corruption.
Plumptre emphasized that these allegations are baseless and described the situation as deeply unsettling. While she has encountered impersonation throughout her career, she stated that the verified status of this specific account gave the misinformation an dangerous level of credibility. The 27-year-old athlete confirmed she is working to have the page removed through official channels.
She expressed gratitude toward the Super Falcons communications staff, captain Rasheedat Ajibade, and her teammates for their vocal support and efforts to clarify the truth. Plumptre reminded fans that she only operates accounts on Instagram and LinkedIn, cautioning the public against interacting with any other pages using her identity. She encouraged supporters to report the fraudulent Facebook account to expedite its closure as the team gears up for the upcoming tournament.
