FIFA President Gianni Infantino is reportedly seeking political support from Morocco as his leadership faces heightened scrutiny. This follows the failure of a disputed initiative to introduce private investment into World Cup commercial rights.
Reports suggest Infantino has proposed that Morocco host the 2030 World Cup final at the future Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca. This 115,000-seat facility could potentially supersede Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu as the championship venue. The offer is reportedly contingent upon Morocco publicly backing Infantino amid calls for his resignation.
The FIFA head is currently in Morocco meeting with officials to stabilize his position. While Morocco, Spain, and Portugal are co-hosting the 2030 tournament, Infantino appears to be looking for reliable allies. Sources indicate he is also worried about losing support from Saudi Arabia, the host of the 2034 tournament.
