Armed assailants kidnap group including students and school principal in Kogi

Armed attackers abducted four students, a school principal, and a NECO official at a secondary school in Kogi State, though one student has since been rescued by security forces.

A group of armed individuals raided Government Secondary School in Odo-Ekina, located within the Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State, on Tuesday evening. During the assault, which took place around 5:25 p.m. while students were participating in their NECO examinations, four pupils, the head of the school, and an official working temporarily for the National Examinations Council were seized.

Authorities have initiated a rescue mission involving a collaborative force of police and security personnel. State Police spokesperson ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat noted that one student has already been successfully recovered. Law enforcement remains focused on tracking down the perpetrators and ensuring the safety of those still missing. To address the situation, Commissioner of Police Naziru Bello Kankarofi, the Brigade Commander, and Commodore Jerry Omodara (Rtd), the State Security Adviser, have traveled to the site for a direct investigation. The police intend to provide further updates as the situation progresses.
