The Kogi State government has provided details on the successful recovery of school students who were sitting for National Examination Council (NECO) exams, alongside their principal, after they were kidnapped. During a Friday appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Morning Show,’ Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Femi Fanwo, explained that the governor acted swiftly to initiate a rescue operation.
Upon being notified, the governor directed his security adviser to organize an immediate response. Within hours, a unified team comprising the army, police, DSS, civil defense, local vigilantes, and hunters swarmed the area. Fanwo noted that authorities utilized tracking technology to monitor the abductors, effectively sealing off all escape routes and supply lines. This intense security presence and logistical disruption pressured the captors into abandoning their hostages to avoid confrontation. Although the captives were secured, the commissioner emphasized that security forces continued their pursuit of the perpetrators to ensure accountability.
This operation follows the Thursday announcement by the state government confirming the safe return of four individuals abducted during an incident in Olowa, located in the Dekina Local Government Area.
