Most Rev. Simeon Borokini, the Archbishop of Ondo Province and Bishop of Akure Diocese, has publicly advocated for the legal prosecution of individuals implicated in the alleged mismanagement of funds at the Presidential Intervention and Promotion Council (PFIPC). Speaking during the 15th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Akure at St. David’s Cathedral, he emphasized that while corruption is a persistent issue in Nigeria, it must be addressed through strict transparency and legal consequences. Borokini urged authorities to track down any misappropriated assets and ensure they are returned to public use for the benefit of the citizenry.
Beyond fiscal accountability, the Archbishop reaffirmed his support for the establishment of state police forces. He specifically praised the Amotekun Corps, noting that locally managed security is an essential strategy for combating kidnapping and regional criminality. Additionally, he encouraged devout Christians to participate actively in the political process, arguing that genuine faith-based integrity is necessary to elevate public service standards.
Regarding the internal operations of the diocese, the Provost of St. David’s Cathedral, Very Rev. Prof. Ayodele Adeyinka Atunwoju, clarified the administrative procedures for leadership transitions. He noted that while competitive tension is natural, the process for selecting a successor to the retiring Archbishop remains firmly under the authority of the Church’s College of Bishops.
