In Birnin Kebbi, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed that the federal government is weaponizing the judicial system to harass opposition members. The party asserts that former Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, is currently facing targeted pressure due to his stated intention to run for governor of Kebbi State in 2027.
Sufiyanu Bala, the state chairman of the ADC, alongside Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa, issued a statement arguing that these tactics aim to destabilize political opponents. They contend that the seizure of assets connected to Malami and other legal hurdles are orchestrated to force him out of the upcoming gubernatorial race.
Furthermore, the ADC accused the Kebbi State administration of participating in a campaign of intimidation to block Malami’s political path. Regardless of these challenges, the party stated that Malami intends to continue his campaign for 2027. They expressed faith that the legal system will uphold fairness despite the ongoing pressure. At the time of this report, neither the federal nor the Kebbi State government had issued a formal response to these accusations.
