Security expert Dr. Yahuza Getso has cautioned that Nigeria is on the brink of a deepening crisis unless the government aggressively confronts bandit activity. This warning follows a violent assault in the Sauna village of Zamfara State’s Talata Mafara district, which left at least 26 residents dead.
During a Trust TV interview, Getso explained that the violence erupted after locals blocked an attempt by bandits to transport stolen livestock through the area. Thwarted in their movement, the armed group retaliated against farmers and civilians, killing those they encountered or pursued.
Getso cited community leaders in confirming the death toll, noting that he corroborated these reports with over 40 locals, including prominent figures. The analyst further alleged that the community had previously alerted the DSS, the police, the military, and state officials about a known bandit camp nearby, yet authorities failed to act.
Highlighting the severity of the situation, Getso urged an immediate shift in government strategy to counter the evolving tactics of these criminal groups. He warned that without swift and organized intervention, the regional security landscape will continue to deteriorate.
