Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), has mobilized 10,210 personnel and specialized units to bolster security for the upcoming governorship election in Osun State. According to a statement released in Abuja by national spokesperson Babawale Afolabi, the operation aims to guarantee a safe environment for voters, officials, and observers.
The reinforcement force includes approximately 1,000 officers dispatched from each of the commands in Ondo, Oyo, Ekiti, Ogun, Lagos, Kwara, Edo, Kogi, Delta, and the Federal Capital Territory. These teams will work alongside the Osun State Command and other security agencies to maintain order.
Specialized units assigned to the operation include the Special Intelligence Squad, the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, the Female Squad, Mining Marshals, the Crack Squad, and the K9 unit. These groups are tasked with intelligence gathering, crowd management, and the protection of essential infrastructure. To oversee the effort, Deputy Commandant-General Ayuba Phillip will relocate to Osun State to supervise operations alongside high-ranking officers.
Commandant-General Audi emphasized that NSCDC members must remain neutral and professional. He warned that any individuals attempting to disrupt the democratic process or engage in political violence would face strict legal consequences. The Corps is coordinating with the Nigerian military and police to ensure security across all 30 Local Government Areas, while encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
