Abuja Court Authorizes Former Taraba Governor Ishaku for Medical Travel

Justice Sylvanus Oriji has permitted former Taraba Governor Darius Ishaku to travel to the UAE for spinal surgery until October 5.

A high court in Abuja gave former Taraba State Governor Darius Ishaku authorization on Tuesday to travel to the United Arab Emirates for a necessary spinal procedure. Justice Sylvanus Oriji approved the request, noting that the medical leave is valid until October 5. This decision follows a recommendation from the former governor’s medical specialist.

Ishaku, who is currently facing legal proceedings brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, stands accused of mismanaging 27 billion Naira. He appeared in court on September 30, 2024, alongside a former Permanent Secretary, Bello Yero, to face a 15-count charge. Chris Umar, acting as lead counsel for Ishaku, formally requested the court permit for the trip. Both the EFCC representative, Rotimi Jacobs, and the counsel for the co-defendant, Hussaini Zakariyya, stated they had no objections to the motion.
