On Wednesday, truck drivers obstructed the Oniparaga segment of the Lagos-Ore-Benin Expressway, causing significant travel delays. The demonstrators claimed that police officers in Ondo State were engaging in extortion, leading to a massive traffic bottleneck that left many passengers and motorists stuck for hours. Distressed travelers reached out to officials, pleading for a quick resolution to clear the road.
Conversely, the Ondo State Police Command has rejected these claims of misconduct. DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the police spokesperson, dismissed the online reports as inaccurate. The command stated that a tanker operator blocked the road on purpose after a dispute with officers who were carrying out their official responsibilities. They maintained that the blockade was not a demonstration against police corruption.
In response, Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu ordered extra officers to the site to organize the traffic and protect travelers. The police have asked the public to ignore rumors and look to official sources for accurate information.
