Agencies under the Greater Aba Development Authority (GADA) recently took immediate action after discovering severe structural fractures in a four-story property at No. 71 Clifford Road, Aba. Following an initial inspection, GADA officials determined that the building was structurally unsound and unfit for occupancy.
Uche Ukeje, the Director General of GADA, stated on Thursday that the defect threatened a potential collapse. Consequently, all occupants were moved to safety. Plans are currently underway to demolish the structure in a controlled manner to mitigate risks to surrounding buildings and individuals.
Ukeje urged the public to remain calm, noting that officials have secured the site. The agency has launched a comprehensive investigation into the incident and requested that locals report any other potentially compromised structures immediately. Meanwhile, local resident Okoro Mark has called on the state government to conduct integrity tests on other high-rise buildings across Aba to forestall future disasters.
