Mrs. Alamu Folawe, the principal of Community High School in Ahoro-Esiele, recently shared the details of the 56 days she and others spent in the hands of kidnappers. During the handover ceremony with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, she explained that their captors used intimidation and the execution of two colleagues, Mr. Michael and Deacon, to try and manipulate the government.
Folawe noted that the abductors constantly told the captives that they had been abandoned by authorities, hoping to break their spirits. Despite these psychological tactics, the victims maintained hope through prayers from the public. The group was eventually freed following a rescue mission involving the military.
The kidnapping began on May 15, when armed individuals attacked three schools in the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, resulting in the deaths of an assistant headmaster and a local motorcyclist. President Bola Tinubu and Governor Makinde were both commended for their roles in the rescue effort. According to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, eight suspects are currently being held by the Department of State Services, and the rescue was completed without the payment of any ransom.
