New data from the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) reveals that 10,607 individuals were subject to enforced removals during the first half of 2026. Among these cases, Indian citizens represented the largest group, totaling 3,323 removals between January 1 and June 30. This figure accounts for nearly one-third of all deportations recorded by the agency during that period.
Following India, the countries with the highest number of citizens removed were Mexico with 1,573, Haiti with 431, and the United States with 372. Other nations appearing in the top ten included Colombia, Romania, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nigeria, and Chile. The CBSA clarifies that these statistics reflect various reasons for inadmissibility and should not be equated solely with criminal activity.
The majority of these removals—8,551 cases—stemmed from non-compliance issues involving refugee claimants. Smaller categories included 1,303 cases of non-compliance among non-claimants, 624 cases linked to criminal activity, and 55 cases involving misrepresentation. Canadian immigration law utilizes departure, exclusion, and deportation orders to manage these processes, with the latter resulting in a permanent bar from re-entry unless authorization is granted.
Of the total removals, 6,210 were categorized as deportation orders, while 2,257 were departure orders and 2,140 were exclusion orders. The agency noted that 9,862 of these removals were unescorted, while 542 required escorts. These figures cover only the first six months of 2026 and do not represent the total annual data for the country.
