Enugu State Government Raises Monthly Minimum Wage for ESUT Employees to N82,000

Effective September 1, 2026, the Enugu State Government has raised the minimum wage for ESUT staff to N82,000 and implemented a N50,000 raise for all other personnel.

The Enugu State administration has officially sanctioned a pay raise for workers at the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), lifting the minimum wage from N32,000 to N82,000 per month. This change is scheduled to begin on September 1, 2026.

Formal confirmation came through a document issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on August 11, 2026. This directive followed recommendations from the Joint Action Committee on Trade Union (JACTU) regarding a recent strike threat. Additionally, all other staff members within the institution will receive a flat salary increase of N50,000.

Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, the university Vice-Chancellor, shared these updates during the 278th Senate meeting. He noted that ongoing discussions with the state government aim to further enhance employee benefits. He also mentioned that Southeast governors committed to a minimum 20% salary hike for state university staff, though individual leaders may choose to provide even greater support. Okolie expressed gratitude to Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his commitment to welfare and infrastructure improvements, while encouraging union representatives to permit the administration to finalize current negotiations.
