Nigeria Navy Primary School Celebrates 50 Years: Alumni Share Childhood Memories

Alumni of Nigeria Navy Primary School, Apapa, gathered to celebrate the institution’s 50th anniversary, sharing nostalgic stories of their childhood experiences and the school’s lasting impact.

Former students of the Nigeria Navy Primary School in Apapa, Lagos, gathered recently to mark the institution’s 50th anniversary. Established in 1976 by the Nigerian Navy to serve the educational needs of military families and the local community, the school celebrated its golden jubilee with a week of festivities.

The commemorative events included a Jumat service, a church service, a community health outreach, sports competitions, and a reunion party. Rear Admiral Mustapha, the Flag Officer Commanding the Western Naval Command, visited the NNS BEECROFT warship during the week to acknowledge the school’s significant impact on education over the last five decades.

Current head teacher, Navy Lt. Commander Suleiman Rabiu, reflected on the institution’s history during the celebration. Alumni shared various personal anecdotes from their time at the school. Development communication specialist Leonard Aro, who started in 1976, expressed pride in attending the weeklong festivities. Ifeoma Ezenagu, a member of the 1994 class, reminisced about school friendships, while John Otah recalled his formative years, noting how the school’s unique uniform and excursions to naval vessels left a lasting impression on him.

Ugochukwu Enwereji, a Special Projects Manager at AIM Group, shared a vivid memory of being disciplined by his mother in front of his classmates in Primary 3B. He also recounted memories of inter-house sports and acting in Christmas plays. Dr. Jonah Ulebor, a lecturer and director at GEEP Education, praised the school for providing a well-rounded education that fostered equality and long-lasting friendships, wishing the institution continued success for future generations.
