Dr. Nasir Idris, the Governor of Kebbi State, has successfully returned five children to their parents following their rescue from an alleged human trafficking ring. The minors were intercepted while being transported from the Kebbi South Senatorial District toward Edo State.
Representing the Governor, Deputy Governor Senator Umar Abubakar Tafida oversaw the handover ceremony in Birnin-Kebbi. He cautioned families against surrendering their children to strangers promising educational opportunities, noting that parents must prioritize the safety of their wards. The state administration has vowed to penalize any parents found negligent in protecting their children from such exploitation.
NAPTIP State Commandant Misbau Iya Kaura explained that the victims were taken from the Danko-Wasagu and Zuru areas under false pretenses before being intercepted in Gusau, Zamfara State. Authorities have apprehended five suspects linked to the case, though one individual remains at large. During the proceedings, the state government pledged its continued support to NAPTIP in the fight against human trafficking.
