Residents and community leaders in the Ogbomoso South local government area of Oyo State have ordered a group of nomadic herdsmen to depart their settlements within two days. This decision stems from growing concerns over security and safety, particularly following reports of kidnappings in Oloka village and the recent abduction of students and teachers in the Oriire local government area.
During a meeting held on August 10, 2026, representatives from eight communities, including Ibapon and Grace land, confronted the transient herdsmen. Baale Ashifat Akanji stated that while established local Fulani residents are known and documented, these new arrivals are strangers whose presence has been discouraged by local police. Community leaders expressed a desire to be proactive regarding their safety rather than waiting for criminal incidents to escalate.
Local chairman Alagbe Oyebamiji reported that the newcomers have caused extensive property damage, including the destruction of crops and infrastructure, and have created unsanitary conditions. Despite previous police intervention, the group returned to the area. Prince Aderemi Olude, head of the Ogbomoso Parapo, confirmed that the ultimatum was issued following conflicting claims by the herders regarding who authorized their stay. The communities now intend to pursue legal measures if the group does not comply within the 48-hour window.
