Soldiers from the Nigerian Army successfully concluded a 10-day search mission in Enugu State, rescuing Lt.-Col. Ofor Amobi and a civilian, Mr. Ikechukwu Onwuanra. Official reports confirm the two men were located early Friday morning as a result of intensified military operations against their captors.
The rescue was executed by a collaborative task force under Sector 1 of Operation UDO KA. This team included elements from the 82 Division Garrison, the 103 Battalion, the Nigerian Navy Special Boat Service, and the 197 Special Forces Battalion. The forces carried out exhaustive searches throughout the forests and settlements of Inyi, Awlaw, and Akpugo-Eze in the Oji River Local Government Area.
Following intelligence provided by the Inyi Divisional Police Officer at 2:00 a.m. on Friday, troops initiated a targeted patrol. They discovered the pair abandoned near the forest boundary in Inyi. Both survivors suffered gunshot injuries and were promptly transported to the 82 Division Medical Hospital for emergency care.
Initial statements indicate the victims were moved between various locations while blindfolded before being left behind in a forest near the Enugu-Anambra border. The survivors credited the persistent pressure from the military units for forcing their abductors to flee. Military authorities stated that further findings regarding the operation will be disclosed in due course.
