Lee Trundle has expressed confidence that Brennan Johnson will flourish at Everton following his transfer from Crystal Palace. The Wales forward has finalized a four-year contract with the club as part of an exchange deal that saw Dwight McNeil head to Selhurst Park. Trundle, a former player himself, believes the 25-year-old has the necessary quality to earn the support of the Everton faithful once he begins finding the back of the net.
Speaking on the BBC’s Feast of Football podcast, Trundle noted that Everton’s manager, David Moyes, is well-suited to extract the best from the forward. Given the inconsistent form of current strikers Beto and Thierno Barry, Trundle suggested that Johnson might be utilized as a central forward. He highlighted Johnson’s ability to run behind defenses and contribute both as a goalscorer and a playmaker.
While Nathan Blake acknowledged that joining a major club like Everton brings significant pressure, he emphasized that the guidance from Moyes and assistant Billy McKinlay should aid Johnson’s development. Meanwhile, Dwight McNeil leaves Everton after a four-year tenure. Trundle remarked that while McNeil showed flashes of talent, the winger often struggled with consistency during his time at the club, making his departure a logical step for all parties involved.
