President Bola Tinubu has challenged religious authorities to actively denounce terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping. Represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, at the Grand Maulud of Sheikh Ahmad Al-Tijani in Kano, the President argued that true devotion to God cannot be expressed through violence against the innocent.
Addressing the World Khalifa of the Tijjaniyya Order and international scholars, Tinubu highlighted the critical need for religious institutions to prioritize peace education and moral guidance for the youth. He urged these leaders to hold politicians accountable for justice and compassion while teaching citizens that grievances do not justify lawlessness.
The President noted that global instability, including climate change and mass displacement, necessitates a strong response from spiritual figures who act as guardians of conscience. He specifically pointed to the Tijjaniyya community’s extensive network across Africa as a vital tool for fostering reconciliation and countering radicalization across the Sahel.
Emphasizing Nigeria’s role as a regional anchor for stability, the President pledged that his administration would continue to value the partnership between the government and religious institutions to preserve social harmony. He also honored the memory of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, praising the scholar’s lifelong commitment to moderation and peaceful coexistence.
