The Nigerian Presidency has dismissed claims from Peoples Redemption Party presidential aspirant Donald Duke, who alleged the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway project would conclude at Epe in Lagos. Official sources clarified that construction activity has already extended into Ogun State.
Government officials categorized Duke’s statements as politically motivated, noting they ignore the actual status of the infrastructure development. Duke, who previously led Cross River State as governor from 1999 to 2007, had raised doubts about the highway extending past Lagos.
Tope Ajayi, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, addressed the comments directly. He stated that the former governor is choosing to overlook established facts to challenge the project’s viability. Writing on his verified X account, Ajayi remarked that political agendas are causing some individuals to ignore verifiable progress.
Ajayi emphasized that while Duke claimed on television that the road would stop in Epe, physical work is currently underway in Ogun, Ondo, and Akwa Ibom states.
