Eze Innocent Kalu Mba, the traditional ruler of the Umunnato community in Item, Bende LGA, Abia State, has retracted remarks made in a widely circulated video. In the footage, the monarch suggested that residents who failed to vote for Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu would face fatal consequences.
During a formal apology on Thursday before local government officials, the Eze claimed his previous language was open to misinterpretation and did not align with his actual feelings. He reaffirmed his full support for the government of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, stating his commitment to the administration is steady and that he prays for the progress of the state.
Addressing the social media fallout, the monarch expressed shock at how his comments were perceived. He clarified that he never intended to embarrass or undermine the governor, whom he supports fully. He stated that upon reflection, he recognized his words caused unnecessary alarm.
The traditional leader emphasized his rejection of violence and intimidation, noting that his priorities are peace and the wellbeing of his constituents. He concluded by asking for forgiveness from Governor Otti, Bende LGA Chairman Bassey Uwabunkeonye, and the public, asking them to accept his clarification with goodwill.
