Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has launched a scathing attack on the presidential bid of Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for their conduct in the Adamawa State governorship primary. In a Sunday social media update, Lawal accused the party of bypassing Engr. Umar Suleiman, the legitimate winner of the primary, to install Tukur Moddibo instead.
Lawal alleged that this swap was driven by ethnic motives and orchestrated by Atiku. He drew a sharp comparison to the online retailer TEMU, describing both Atiku and the ADC’s candidate as budget-tier goods. According to Lawal, the former vice president prioritizes religious and ethnic interests over merit, intentionally sidelining competent candidates like Suleiman to protect existing political hegemony.
Furthermore, Lawal asserted that this candidate replacement flagrantly disregards the Electoral Act 2026, as well as the internal guidelines and constitution of the ADC. He has vowed to seek justice through the legal system, expressing confidence that the maneuver will not stand up to judicial scrutiny. He remains optimistic that Adamawa voters will ultimately spurn these candidates at the polls, potentially leading to the downfall of both the ADC and the All Progressives Congress in the state.
