Everton and Crystal Palace negotiate player exchange involving McNeil and Johnson

Everton and Crystal Palace are discussing a swap deal featuring winger Dwight McNeil and forward Brennan Johnson, aiming to complete the transfer this week.

Everton and Crystal Palace are currently engaged in discussions regarding a swap deal that would send Toffees winger Dwight McNeil to the Eagles in exchange for Welsh international Brennan Johnson. Both clubs aim to finalize the arrangement within the coming week.

McNeil, aged 26, previously came close to joining Crystal Palace in February. Although he successfully completed a medical examination, that potential transfer stalled after paperwork deadlines were missed. The incident prompted public criticism from his partner, Megan Sharpley, who expressed frustration over the emotional toll the failed move took on the player.

This renewed negotiation now includes Brennan Johnson. The 25-year-old Welshman, who joined Palace in January for 35 million pounds, played a role in the club’s Conference League title run, though he did not score in 26 appearances across all competitions. Conversely, McNeil has recorded 15 goals in 128 matches since moving to Everton from Burnley in 2022.

Everton finished the previous Premier League season in 13th place, two spots above Crystal Palace, who secured a spot in the upcoming Europa League. The clubs are scheduled to face each other at Hill Dickinson Stadium on August 22 for the Premier League season opener.
