Sam Amadi, who directs the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, has claimed that the National Assembly is actively violating constitutional mandates. He voiced these concerns during a Sunday appearance on Arise Television.
Amadi argued that the core of a democratic system relies on elected officials acting as responsible trustees for the public. He expressed worry regarding the frequency with which the legislature ignores constitutional rules.
According to Amadi, the dominance of the ruling party within the legislature creates a culture where executive bills are passed without scrutiny to advance the president’s goals. He stated that when representatives fail to cast independent votes, they erode the democratic process. He concluded that while the nation rightfully condemns military coups, there is a dangerous trend of undermining democracy through the systematic neglect of constitutional obligations.
