Residents of Abdul Street near University Road in the Abule-Oja neighborhood of Lagos experienced significant alarm on Wednesday as a fire erupted within several buildings. A video posted to Twitter captured dense smoke rising from what looked like two separate structures, triggering urgent pleas for emergency teams to intervene and stop the blaze from growing.
Nearby bystanders were filmed attempting to extinguish the flames using buckets of water while chaos broke out in the area. It remains uncertain whether the Lagos State Fire Service has successfully extinguished the fire or the total scale of the destruction caused. Currently, the origin of the blaze is unknown. This event follows closely behind a recent fire at the Federal Mortgage Bank headquarters in Abuja, which resulted in an estimated N500 million in losses.
