The Nigeria Police Force has officially summoned social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, widely recognized as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and initiated an inquiry involving Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh. These actions follow serious accusations brought forward by the activist.
Police spokesperson CSP Ani Iniedu stated on Tuesday that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Abuja is leading the process. VDM was formally invited on July 30, 2026, to provide evidence for his public claims. Concurrently, AIG Jimoh was brought in for questioning as part of the department’s internal accountability procedures.
The investigation pertains to comments VDM made regarding the AIG of Zone 2, Lagos, and a specific criminal case. The police emphasized that this criminal matter is already before a court of law, having undergone review by the Directorate of Public Prosecutions. Consequently, authorities declared the issue subjudice and insisted that they will not permit public opinion or media campaigns to dictate the legal outcome.
While acknowledging the public’s right to demand accountability, the police cautioned against defamation and spreading unverified information. They encouraged VDM to cooperate with the ongoing investigation. The force maintained that while no officer is exempt from the law, they will strictly follow constitutional procedures to determine guilt or innocence, noting that those found providing false information could face legal consequences.
