Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Engr. Muttaqa Rabe Darma, has confirmed that the recent fire at the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN) headquarters did not destroy any essential customer information or organizational records. During a visit to the Abuja site on Tuesday, the minister observed the damage and noted that the fire was confined to a portion of the second floor. While preliminary findings point toward an electrical failure, a comprehensive investigation remains underway, and the minister has pledged to hold any negligent parties accountable.
Darma praised the institution for its transition to digital records, noting that the bank’s cloud-based backup infrastructure ensured all critical data remained secure. He emphasized that physical paperwork was the only item lost in the affected area. The minister encouraged the public to continue using the bank’s services, confirming that operations remain uninterrupted. Furthermore, he reaffirmed the government’s pledge to deliver 100,000 housing units over four years and mentioned that FMBN is currently adjusting internal processes to facilitate up to 2,000 mortgages annually.
