The Ebonyi State branch of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally denounced an assault on Barrister Ifeanyi Nworie, a former All Progressives Congress (APC) leader who recently defected. The violence occurred this past Saturday in Idembia, located within the Ezza South Local Government Area.
PDP leadership claims that agents and appointees associated with the APC-led state government targeted Nworie, his followers, and several journalists. State Chairman Chukwuma Igwe reported that during the incident, vehicles were destroyed and multiple people suffered injuries from dangerous weapons, leaving eight victims hospitalized. Igwe further alleged that the attackers included a former House of Representatives member alongside other government officials.
Addressing the press in Abakaliki, Igwe labeled the event a calculated attempt to disrupt the 2027 general elections. He urged security services—including the Police, DSS, and military—to maintain neutrality and guarantee a secure environment for all citizens to participate in politics. The PDP affirmed its commitment to remain peaceful while insisting that it will not be intimidated by these actions, demanding that the state government adhere to democratic standards.
