The Kogi State Government has established a new fee structure for political campaign advertisements ahead of the 2027 general elections. Presidential candidates are now required to pay N150 million to display billboards and promotional materials. Fees for other positions include N50 million for senatorial hopefuls, N30 million for House of Representatives candidates, and N5 million for the State House of Assembly.
Kingsley Fanwo, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, announced these rates in Lokoja following consultations with advertising industry stakeholders. The charges extend to branded items like caps and T-shirts and also apply to the upcoming October 2026 local government elections, where chairmanship candidates must pay N2 million and councillorship hopefuls N300,000.
Fanwo explained that these fees aim to organize political advertising, uphold signage laws, and increase state revenue. The government determined these rates after comparing them with charges in other states. The Kogi State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KOSSAA) will manage enforcement. Fanwo emphasized that these rules are binding for all parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). Non-compliance will result in the removal of materials and potential legal action. KOSSAA General Manager Richard Osaseyi noted that enforcement will begin next week, advising all stakeholders to secure proper registration and approvals immediately.
