The Kano State Sharia Commission has officially outlawed the “attachment” method, which allowed commercial tricycle drivers to seat female passengers on the sides of their vehicles. Sheikh Ali Danabba, the Second Commissioner, stated that this decision stems from Islamic principles, which prohibit the close physical proximity that occurs during such rides.
This announcement was made during a gathering with officials from the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association of Kano, also known as BOTORA. Danabba explained that the meeting aimed to enhance the partnership between the commission and the association. Beyond the new seating rule, the dialogue addressed broader societal concerns, including child kidnapping, the prevalence of illicit drugs, and the promotion of professional conduct among drivers.
The leadership of BOTORA expressed their commitment to supporting these regulations. They pledged to work alongside the Sharia Commission to foster public safety and social discipline. The meeting featured several prominent members, including Commissioner Gwani Dahir Yakasai and various representatives from the transport sector.
