The traditional leader of Umuawulu in Awka South, HRM Igwe Dr. Joel Maduadichie Egwuonwu, has requested Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s involvement to settle a mounting conflict within his community. A long-standing land ownership struggle between the Enugwu and Umuenu villages has resulted in one fatality and several arrests.
Although he belongs to the Umuenu quarter, the monarch maintains that he has acted impartially throughout the ordeal. Residents of Enugwu have organized protests demanding his removal, claiming he is biased toward his own village. During a press briefing on Friday, Igwe Egwuonwu denied these accusations and noted that the legal system is already handling the case, leaving him without the authority to alter the situation.
The Igwe emphasized his role as a father to all Umuawulu citizens, stating that his only perceived wrongdoing is his lineage. He clarified that the recent police arrests followed violent clashes involving machete injuries and were not a result of his direct intervention. He urged the governor to step in and appealed for his constituents to prioritize communal harmony while awaiting a final court judgment.
