Suspected terrorists carried out deadly assaults on Kasuwar Daji in Zamfara State and Lajinge village in Sokoto State late Saturday, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers and 12 residents. In the Zamfara attack, gunmen overran a military outpost around 11:30 pm, subsequently kidnapping more than 70 people and taking them into the bush.
A resident, Alhaji Aminu Kasuwar Daji, described the militants as arriving in large numbers to overwhelm security forces. Former deputy speaker Namadi Kasuwar Daji confirmed the raid, noting that the assailants looted food and property before fleeing with captives. Police spokesperson DSP Yazid Abubakar stated he was investigating the reports.
Separately, in the Sokoto village of Lajinge, gunmen killed 12 people during a raid that lasted from 11 pm until 3:30 am. Witnesses reported that six individuals, including a man named Mallam Wauro and his two sons, were trapped in a room and burned to death after the attackers poured petrol on the structure. Other victims were shot while attempting to flee.
Local vigilantes were unable to repel the attackers, who moved through the village stealing livestock while security forces in nearby communities failed to respond to distress calls. Survivors expressed deep frustration, noting that this marks the second major attack in the area in three weeks. Sokoto police spokesperson DSP Ahmad Rufai stated that he was working to verify the details of the incident.
