A high-ranking military official has refuted recent online reports claiming eight soldiers were killed in an ambush on the Maiduguri-Dikwa road. The source stated that only two personnel died after their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device (IED) planted by suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP militants.
The incident occurred on Thursday as soldiers from the 24 Task Force, serving under the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, were returning to their Dikwa base from Maiduguri with supplies. The official confirmed that a gun truck hit the device, leading to two fatalities, while dismissing the higher death toll circulating in some media reports. The source also urged journalists to verify details with proper authorities before publishing.
As of now, security agencies have yet to provide an official statement regarding the event.
