Kenneth Okonkwo, a prominent figure in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has formally called for President Bola Tinubu to step down rather than pursuing a re-election bid in 2027. Speaking on Channels Television, Okonkwo expressed concerns regarding a federal court ruling that had previously removed the ADC from the national register.
The ADC chieftain criticized the current administration’s record, particularly highlighting the prevalence of insecurity across Nigeria. He cited ongoing violent incidents in Plateau, Benue, and Oyo states as evidence of failure. Okonkwo shared a personal anecdote about his own staff member whose mother was kidnapped and tortured by criminals in Kaduna State, noting that such accounts are often absent from official media reports.
According to Okonkwo, the government’s performance has been inadequate, and he believes the administration is attempting to manipulate political processes to stay in power. He concluded that, given the state of the nation, the president should choose to resign immediately rather than waiting for the next electoral cycle.
