Aviation Minister Keyamo Labels Asaba Private Jet Landing a Security Breach

Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo states that the pilot and crew of a private jet are in DSS custody after landing on a road in Asaba instead of the runway.

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has characterized the recent private jet incident in Asaba as a serious security violation. During an appearance on the television program Politics Today, the minister confirmed that the aircraft’s pilot and crew are currently in the custody of the Department of State Services for intense interrogation.

The incident involved a jet that touched down on a public road rather than the designated airport runway, despite receiving landing authorization from the control tower. Keyamo clarified that the failure was not due to faulty navigational equipment, as the tower had provided proper clearance. Shortly after granting permission, officials realized the pilot had missed the runway entirely and was instead stationary on a nearby concrete road.

Rather than awaiting an official investigation, the pilot chose to take off again, prompting authorities to track the aircraft. The crew was eventually detained upon their arrival in Lagos following direct intervention by the minister.
