Following the brief detention of Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaye on allegations of vote buying, Governor Ademola Adeleke has asserted that Osun State residents will not yield to external pressures or threats as the August 15 governorship election nears. While the governor refrained from commenting directly on the detention, he emphasized the resilience of the electorate and his confidence in securing a second term based on his administration’s track record in infrastructure and social welfare.
The Osun State Police Command confirmed that Igbalaye was apprehended alongside five individuals, including Abiodun Arowomole, a suspect reportedly on the police wanted list for murder. Police spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed the release of the SSG, noting that investigations remain active. In response, the All Progressives Congress campaign council criticized the governor, demanding the dismissal of the SSG for allegedly sheltering known criminals.
Simultaneously, Speaker of the House of Assembly Adewale Egbedun alleged that law enforcement is orchestrating a plot to implicate and detain him. He characterized the recent police actions as an abuse of authority and suggested these moves are politically motivated efforts to undermine his office ahead of the upcoming vote.
