Doris Ogala, the African Action Congress gubernatorial candidate for Abia State, has openly criticized the state government for charging candidates N150 million to display campaign billboards. In a video shared on social media, Ogala stated that she lacks access to illicitly obtained public funds, which she claims is the only way to afford such an expense.
The Abia State Structure for Signage and Advertising Agency recently mandated that presidential candidates pay N200 million and gubernatorial hopefuls pay N150 million to use local advertising spaces for the 2027 election cycle. Ogala questioned the morality of these fees, noting that the state is currently facing significant hardships, including unpaid worker salaries and a struggling healthcare system.
She challenged the authorities, asserting that she will proceed with her campaign regardless of the ruling and warned that she will not permit any interference with her campaign materials.
