The British government has officially designated Vicky Seymour as the incoming Deputy High Commissioner stationed in Abuja. She replaces Gill Lever OBE, whose tenure concluded in June 2026.
A public announcement released on Thursday confirmed that Seymour has already commenced her responsibilities. Her mandate focuses on enhancing the bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and Nigeria, specifically regarding security, economic prosperity, development projects, migration, and fostering interpersonal ties.
With over two decades of expertise in international development and diplomatic affairs, Seymour arrives with a strong professional background. Most recently, she managed the East Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office since 2023. Her previous assignments include leading the FCDO Trade Diplomacy Department and serving as Development Director in Mozambique.
Her extensive career features leadership positions in Afghanistan, Uganda, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with expertise covering climate, security, and economic growth. Early in her career, she worked within the non-profit sector addressing migration challenges. Expressing her enthusiasm, Seymour stated she is eager to engage with Nigeria’s diverse communities and further cultivate the partnership between the two nations to generate mutual opportunities.
