Governor Hyacinth Alia has lauded President Bola Tinubu for authorizing the establishment of the Nigerian Army’s 5 Division headquarters in Makurdi. This move is expected to bolster security and maintain regional stability. The announcement was shared through a statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula.
According to Alia, the President’s decision highlights a firm resolve to enhance the national security framework and tackle ongoing safety concerns. The new division is part of a broader expansion of the army, which is growing from eight to 12 divisions. It will oversee security operations across Benue, Nasarawa, and Kogi states.
The governor noted that this addition will improve military command and control, allow for faster reaction times during security emergencies, and provide better protection for citizens. Alia expects the presence of this division to assist his government in fighting crime, protecting agricultural areas, and bringing peace to troubled regions of Benue.
Furthermore, Alia praised the President for authorizing the hiring of 28,000 new soldiers and continuing to fund military gear and welfare. He views these actions as evidence of a commitment to maintaining a capable and motivated military force. The governor concluded by pledging his administration’s continued partnership with federal authorities to ensure security and development within Benue State.
