Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, has advised Nigerians to stop associating Fulani herders with acts of terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry. During the 2026 National Conference for the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) held in Abuja, he emphasized that lawbreakers should be addressed based on their illicit actions rather than their ethnic identity.
The Sultan highlighted that every demographic group contains both moral and corrupt individuals, asserting that the actions of a small number of criminals should not reflect upon the millions of law-abiding Fulani citizens. He committed the support of Fulani communities to assist security services in purging criminal elements from their regions. Furthermore, he commended President Bola Tinubu for launching the Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, noting its potential to benefit the national economy.
MACBAN National President Baba Othman Ngelzarma echoed these sentiments, stating that crime should not be tied to any specific religion, occupation, or tribe. He stressed that while offenders must face legal consequences, innocent citizens deserve protection against prejudice. He also confirmed that MACBAN intends to keep collaborating with government security forces to curb criminal activity.
