An Independent National Electoral Commission meeting in Osogbo nearly devolved into physical confrontation this Thursday. Supporters aligned with Governor Ademola Adeleke and Bola Oyebamiji became embroiled in an intense verbal altercation.
Trouble started when Bamidele Salam, representing the Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, and Egbedore Federal Constituency, addressed the floor. His remarks regarding the seizure of state motor parks by a National Union of Road Transport Workers faction commanded by Kazeem Oyewale, known as Asiri Eniba, triggered the disruption.
The room quickly split as followers of Governor Adeleke chanted slogans for the Accord party while supporters of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, responded with their own chants. Order was eventually restored through the joint efforts of the Nigeria Police, the Nigerian Army, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency, and the Nigerian Airforce.
Earlier in the proceedings, Civil Society Organizations and Accord party members disrupted the goodwill address delivered by the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Gotan.
