Abdullahi Gali Shitu, widely recognized as Comrade Abdullahi Gali Basaf, has transitioned back to his professional roots in tailoring after a court verdict ended his tenure as the Kumbotso Local Government Chairman in Kano State. He emphasizes that his craft provides far more security than the unpredictable nature of political office.
Serving as chairman until March 2026, Basaf explained that his choice serves as a lesson for other officials to maintain a viable trade rather than viewing governance as a primary income stream. His shop, located in Sheka Ward, currently sustains 20 employees. He aims to scale this operation into a larger garment manufacturing facility to eventually support over 50 workers, driven by a desire to boost local economic growth.
Holding degrees in Political Science, Basaf remains dedicated to his trade despite his educational background. His career included significant ties to the Kwankwasiyya movement and roles within the NNPP. Following a 2024 election victory, his mandate was invalidated by a Kano State High Court in 2026, which named Ali Musa the official winner. Despite this, Basaf maintains that his passion for tailoring is superior to political work, which he describes as inherently temporary. He plans to remain involved in public service while prioritizing the consistent livelihood offered by his sewing business.
