Security forces in Monguno, Borno State, have detained a sought-after Boko Haram informant linked to the recent raid on Cross Kauwa. Details of the arrest were shared on X by security analyst Zagazola Makama.
The individual, named Abulfatahi, was caught on July 27 through a targeted intelligence mission aimed at disrupting militant networks. Two other associates previously caught in connection with this cell have already been moved to the Joint Intelligence Fusion Centre for deeper questioning.
In his initial statement, Abulfatahi acknowledged serving under a Boko Haram commander named Akilu, who oversees insurgent operations in Garin Mace and Dabar Masara. The captive confessed to gathering illegal taxes for the group and assisting in identifying targets for kidnapping in the vicinity of Monguno.
Authorities discovered contact information for Akilu on the suspect’s phone, providing a lead for ongoing efforts to break down the insurgent infrastructure. Security agencies continue to probe the network to locate further collaborators and gather intelligence for counter-terrorism campaigns across the Lake Chad basin.
