The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has claimed that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has repeatedly overstepped its bounds in governing the nation. Bolaji Abdullahi, the party’s national spokesman, voiced these concerns during an interview on Symfoni TV.
Abdullahi criticized the President for exercising power with impunity, alleging that he is supported in this by a National Assembly led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. He argued that the essential system of checks and balances, meant to foster healthy tension between the executive, legislative, and judicial branches, has been compromised. According to Abdullahi, all three arms of government now appear to operate solely according to the President’s directives.
The ADC highlighted the government’s failure to properly execute national budgets, noting that the country is currently running three overlapping budgets without having fully implemented any. The spokesman pointed to reports of 8.8 trillion naira in unbudgeted expenditures, suggesting these actions constitute potential impeachable offenses. Furthermore, Abdullahi accused the current administration of frequently ignoring court orders and actively working to undermine opposition parties, actions he believes threaten the foundations of Nigerian democracy and the constitution.
