Former Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa Returns to EFCC Lagos Facility

Ifeanyi Okowa, the former governor of Delta State, visited the EFCC office in Lagos to continue addressing ongoing investigations into alleged financial misconduct during his administration.

Ifeanyi Okowa, the ex-governor of Delta State, appeared at the EFCC headquarters in Lagos this Monday. This visit is linked to an active inquiry regarding financial management throughout his time as state leader.

Reports from the anti-corruption body suggest this appearance relates to existing oversight of his administration. Okowa was previously detained by the commission in November 2024 following claims that approximately N1.3 trillion was misappropriated during his two terms.

Authorities also investigated claims that public resources were utilized to purchase real estate in both Asaba and Abuja. Addressing earlier accusations, Okowa defended his record, asserting that state finances were managed appropriately and noting he has no fear of scrutiny. He previously described the allegations as a media trial, while acknowledging that he aimed to serve the public effectively during his time in office.

Okowa governed Delta State between 2015 and 2023 for the Peoples Democratic Party. He later served as the vice-presidential running mate to Atiku Abubakar in the 2023 election. In April 2025, he joined the All Progressives Congress alongside his successor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
