Senator Adams Oshiomhole has challenged Peter Obi’s 2027 presidential bid, labeling the NDC candidate’s pledge to overhaul Nigeria in a single term as a sign of extreme desperation. Speaking on TVC’s Beyond the Headlines, the former Edo State governor argued that Obi’s past political transitions suggest a lack of consistency.
Oshiomhole pointed to Obi’s departure from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) after his gubernatorial tenure as evidence of shifting allegiances. He further characterized Obi’s professional background as a trader as a disqualifying trait, claiming that such individuals focus on immediate profits rather than the long-term strategic planning essential for national governance. He also alleged that Obi’s business model relies heavily on importing goods, which he claims negatively impacts domestic employment.
Conversely, Oshiomhole expressed strong support for President Bola Tinubu. He compared the current administration’s economic reforms to essential surgery, asserting that these necessary, albeit difficult, measures are vital for long-term national recovery. Regarding Obi’s campaign, the Senator dismissed the four-year plan as unrealistic, suggesting that if the former Anambra governor could not transform his state during his eight-year tenure, his latest promises lack credibility. Oshiomhole concluded that this level of political ambition is rooted in desperation rather than sound policy.
