Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has denounced the kidnapping of churchgoers in Enugu State. He characterized the targeting of religious assemblies by criminals as a major national issue requiring immediate intervention. In an official statement shared on Monday, Obi noted that the threat of violence is no longer restricted to specific regions but has become a pervasive danger for all citizens.
Reflecting on the incident, Obi expressed his distress over the abduction of individuals who were simply seeking peace in a place of worship. He emphasized that these attacks have moved past traditional hotspots like Borno or Zamfara, evolving into a threat that disregards religious, ethnic, or regional boundaries. The former governor stressed that citizens deserve to live without the constant fear of being targeted while at work, school, or home.
Obi advocated for a unified front among Nigerians, urging the populace to move past political and cultural divisions to address the security crisis as a single, shared responsibility. He further challenged security services to prioritize the rescue of the kidnapped victims and hold the perpetrators accountable.
