The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed it will not grant further extensions for the continuous voter registration (CVR) process. Wilfred Ifogah, the commission’s Deputy Director of Voter Education and Publicity, stated that the agency must now prioritize finalizing the electoral roll for the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Channels Television, Ifogah explained that a previous two-week extension had already increased the workload for staff. He noted that while new individuals become eligible to vote every day, the commission must eventually stop the registration process to satisfy legal and administrative mandates. The agency requires a minimum of 75 days post-registration to clean the data, handle objections, and issue permanent voter cards.
Despite acknowledging that some citizens missed the window, Ifogah expressed regret, stating that further delays would compromise the commission’s ability to meet its statutory obligations. INEC has officially ended the registration period and is now focusing on the essential steps required to prepare the final register.
