John Stones has decided against signing with Chelsea or Arsenal, opting instead to reach a verbal agreement to join Inter Milan on a free transfer. The 32-year-old center-back became a free agent after his contract with Manchester City expired, ending a ten-year tenure that began with a high-profile move from Everton.
Although the defender battled injuries during the most recent domestic campaign, he demonstrated his enduring value during the summer World Cup. Representing England under manager Thomas Tuchel, Stones played in three matches as the squad reached the semi-finals before falling to Argentina.
Arsenal had identified Stones as a potential target to bolster their defensive line following William Saliba’s long-term back injury. Similarly, Chelsea sought to bring the experienced England international into Xabi Alonso’s squad. Both clubs, however, have been unsuccessful in their pursuits.
Reports from Sky Italy suggest that Inter Milan has successfully secured a two-year deal with the player. While Juventus was previously linked to the defender, Inter is expected to finalize the transfer by the end of the week. This acquisition follows earlier summer signings for the Serie A champions, including Aleksandar Stankovic and Ivan Provedel. Furthermore, Inter remains interested in bringing Cristian Romero to the club following his anticipated departure from Tottenham.
